John Sexton (A/K/A Robert Moses)

Years ago, a brave woman named Jane Jacobs stood up to Robert Moses, who planned to build a big highway right across Greenwich Village. Now comes John Sexton, pictured at left, the President of New York University, who wants to build luxury student housing in a broad swath across Greenwich Village. Sadly, Christine Quinn, the woman known to have corrupt morals, always finds a way to take campaign donations from major zone-busting real estate development projects in her district, like the billion-dollar Rudin luxury condo and townhouse development plan for St. Vincent's Hospital. Rumour has it that Christine Quinn will continue to enable the destruction of the fragile neighborhood fabric of Greenwich Village by approving John Sexton's Village-destroying expansion plan.

NYU-Faculty-Against-Sexton-Expansion-Plan, NYU-FASP (NYU Faculty Against the Sexton Plan) are throwing an event you might be interested on June 18th to raise awareness of and funds for the fight against this terribly wrong-headed plan

Quinn NYU Expansion Protest

There will be a protest against City Council Speaker Christine Quinn on Thursday, February 23, 2012, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., at 151-155 Sullivan Street (below Houston) at St. Anthony of Padua Church. Hundreds of New York City voters in Speaker Quinn's city council district are expected to participate in a rally and press conference at a public hearing to express their dismay about major real estate development (the irresponsible NYU Expansion Plans and the billion-dollar luxury condo and townhouse conversion of St. Vincent's Hospital) in Greenwich Village -- development which will undoubtedly be supported by Speaker Quinn, given her track record of repaying her estate donors at the expense of local communities in New York City. Remnants of St. Vincent's Hospital To Become Luxury Condos

Christine Quinn Sells St. Vincent's Hospital to Rudin Family ; Jane Jacobs is Turning in Her Grave. :'(

New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn continues her campaign to sell New York City landmarks to real estate developers, activists say. Witness the latest announcement involving the historic real estate of the former St. Vincent's Hospital.

From Curbed :

If this graphic looks familiar, it's because we've seen it before, back when the Landmarks Presrevation Commission approved the highly controversial St. Vincent's redevelopment plan. In the intervening months, the hospital's closure took that redevelopment plan off the table, and the great St. Vincent's sell-off began. And then this bombshell: the Observer reports that, actually, the sawtooth O'Toole Building will be retrofitted and reopened as an emergency medical facility, with assistance from Rudin Management, the developer behind the previous plan, and North Shore-LIJ hospital. A victory for preservationists? Yes and no.

One thing the preservationists didn't want was the construction of an FX Fowle-designed residential building on Seventh Avenue South. Win some, lose some: that aspect of the old plan is back in a big way (as is the Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates makeover of St. Vincent's Triangle). The building will contain 450 units of luxury condos. Last time the subject came up, the LPC ordered the 233-foot building cut down a few stories, so we don't know what the final version will look like. We're guessing the architectural surgeons will still end up with something similar to the last design.

The rumour amongst activists it that, for an encore, Speaker Quinn will join forces with Mayor Bloomberg, to bust the unions of public employees, like teachers.
